Jennifer Schenck

Adult Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner MSN, PMHNP, RNC

Adults 18-65 years old.
I have been practicing in mental health since 1997. I started my career first as a behavioral health registered nurse in my civilian life and I continued that in the Army until I became a Psychiatric Mental-Health Nurse Practitioner in 2008 through the Army’s Long Term Health Education Program. All my experience as an NP has been on active duty working with various adult populations.
I recently retired from the Army after proudly serving for almost 22 years. My family and I are new to the area. I am looking to start my practice with a patient population that I truly love. My main focus is psychiatric medication management with a medical spin. I think it is important to address the whole person and their history when making choices for care. We will work together to come up with a healthcare plan that works for everyone involved.

Play Therapy

Janet Wiley and Jamie Benson offer Play Therapy

Play therapy is a form of psychotherapy that can be effective in helping children through emotional and mental issues. Children often use play to express themselves and navigate the world and play therapy takes advantage of this. Play therapy is primarily used with children. Although, it can also be used with adults. It is typically used with children who are aged between 3 and 12. The primary goal of play therapy is to help children who might struggle with expressing themselves or their emotions to express themselves through play1.

There are two main forms of play therapy used by play therapists: Directive Play Therapy and Non-directive Play Therapy1Some of the most common techniques used by play therapists across the world include: Using building blocks, Using art, Sand play, Board games, Play with dolls, Puppet play, Tea party play, Card games, Strategy games like chess or checkers, Hide-and-seek and LEGO play.

There are three characteristics that are helpful in guiding the play therapist to identify play themes. They are repetition, intensity, and context. Some of the themes seen in metaphorical constructions in play therapy include the use of elements such as sand, water, paint, puppet shows to represent a life experience, the representation of experiences in the sand tray, and use of video cameras to recreate a story

Benefit from our professional experiences and wide range of psychological services.
